Jack Rogers
PALM BEACH IN 1961 was the southern outpost of Camelot. On a typical afternoon here, people with last names like Pulitzer and Kennedy bowled on crew-cut lawns or played backgammon at pools flanked with sunshine and cabana shade, their ankles dangling in rippling blue water that would seldom seem this inviting again. On the beach, men who ran the world ran in rolled up chinos to join their families for picnics and games.
On just such a day, a keen eye might have spied a figure in black-framed glasses and the perfect shift as she emerged from St. Edwards Church on Good Friday, March 31, 1961. Her arms were bare and her legs too, and she pulled the look together beautifully with her Jacks - the Jack Rogers Navajo sandal.
