Brothers Shep and Ian Murray started vineyard vines in the summer of 1998 as a celebration of their favorite vacation spot. They wanted to create neckties that captured the spirit of Martha's Vineyard, and if doing so let them spend more time there, well, that was even better. From the beginning their goal was simple: Make ties for people who don't like to wear ties -- ties that sweep people away from their desk jobs to carefree places and happy memories. It's no surprise then, that the first tie they designed depicted Martha's Vineyard street signs, streets they'd grown up on and roamed in their youth.
